FILM FEST 2024
Film Fest is our annual Presbytery Central Youth Film Competition.
We have been running it for over 20 years but took a break over the last few years.
There are two parts to it.
The first part is that youth groups register their interest online Here to compete and then they start to create a 5 min short film that follows the Film Fest guidelines These are due Sunday 9th June at Midnight.
The second part is the Premiere where all of the films are shown and judged, this is on Sunday 23rd June in the afternoon at a venue still to be determined in Wellington. Youth groups enter in for a range of awards that are all detailed on the judging criteria sheet.
We used to get around 12 entries each year created by youth group members between the ages of 10 to 25 from churches around our Central Presbytery.
It is a fantastic event and I highly recommend everyone to come and enjoy the evening even if they haven’t entered their own video. It’s a great time out for all ages.
PLEASE NOTE THAT Films must be uploaded to vimeo by Sunday 9th June 2024 Midnight. There will be no exceptions for late videos. Plan your time wisely.
All films must include these things at some point during the 5mins:
- THEME FOR FILMS: CONNECTEDNESS
- MUST INCLUDE OBJECT: BOARD GAME
- SCRIPTURE THAT THEY MUST INCLUDE VERBALLY OR WRITTEN: GALATIONS 3:28
Cost $5 (cash only)
Note: Here are some ways different groups have approached Film Fest in the past:
Some youth groups have planned over a few nights of youth group and then filmed over a few nights, then a couple of youthies with support from youth pastor have edited the film (but youth pastor was just there to provide support, and snacks not to do the editing!!!).
Other groups have done a days planning over a weekend and a days filming over another weekend.
Others have done it over a few days in school holidays.
Whatever you decide to do definitely give yourself longer than you think you’ll need because it often takes longer than you’ve planned and trust me I’ve done a few of these but it’s well worth the effort. The stories are still told of films made from 20 years ago, from the bond that the films help create in the group that put them together, from the support their church community gave to making the film happen and for some Film Fest has inspired a career in these areas for young people when they could see what’s possible.
Get involved its worth it.
