The Gathering
2022 is the tenth anniversary year of Presbytery Central Gatherings. The first of these was held in August 2012 with a theme of Fresh Hope for the church in New Zealand. The Gathering has gone from strength to strength since then, with 20 bi-annual events held at 4 different venues throughout the Presbytery. We also held 4 micro gatherings online, when the country was locked down by Covid.

Thanks to Covid-19 uncertainty, we felt it prudent to move this event online. This coming Gathering is our first full-size online Gathering. We are delighted to be able to offer this event to all who want to learn about Reaching All Generations. We are hosting a 100 person interactive event on Zoom and a live-stream of the event on Youtube for any who cannot fit in the Zoom room or who would prefer to only watch.
Empowering Generations
We have taken the theme for this Gathering, Reaching All Generations, from our Keynote Speaker, the Right Reverend Hamish Galloway, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Reverend Galloway commenced his Moderatorial term with the theme of Empowering Generations, saying “A particularly important focus for me will be encouraging the Church to steward resources wisely and effectively to empower the next generation of the Church. Hangaa e te Atua he whakapaparanga mo nga wa e heke mai nei – Build O God a generation for the times that are coming” You can learn more about this theme at his Empowering Generations website
Workshops
Typically at our Gatherings, we try to offer a good range of Workshops – people are able to attend 2 from a selection of different ones. We have used our online format as an opportunity to bring together a collection of vibrant presenters from various ministries within the National Church. And, for the first time, all the workshops are available for everyone to watch live or later. We’re delighted with the 3 workshops we have on offer and believe they will build well on the theme encapsulated by our keynote speaker.

Rt Rev Hamish Galloway | |
Born in Timaru, he worked as a solicitor before training for ministry at Knox Theological College. Over the years he has done ministry stints at St Stephens Presbyterian Church, Timaru, St Andrew’s College, Christchurch, Hope Presbyterian Church, Christchurch and Cashmere Presbyterian Church. Hamish has also spent time studying and ministering in Canada, USA, Australia and the UK Hamish plans to focus on a number of areas during his Moderatorship, including, being pastorally attentive to the wide diversity of people in the Church. Another particularly important focus is encouraging the Church to steward resources wisely and effectively to empower the next generation of the Church. Hangaa e te Atua he whakapaparanga mo nga wa e heke mai nei Build O God a generation for the times that are coming Hamish is married to Anne. They have three adult children and three grandchildren. |  |
Rev Robin Humphreys | |
Robin is the Children and Families Director for the PCANZ Robin loves joining in with what God is doing in the lives of children of all ages (from 2 to 102)! In the last 20 years, she has served God as a solo pastor, community children’s worker, youth worker, and teacher to new entrants. She now serves as Director of the Presbyterian Children and Families Ministry for the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand |  |
Gordon Fitch | |
| Gordon has been a youth worker in the UK, USA and New Zealand for coming on 25 years. He is currently the National Youth Manager and Head of Mission Resourcing for the Presbyterian Church. He spends his days either supporting youth workers, being a resource and advocating for youth ministry or encouraging communication and collaboration between the mission resourcing departments of Presbyterian Church. He supports Liverpool FC, enjoys playing badminton, golf and football, and loves to travel, though only has distant memories of that. |  |
Matt Chamberlin | |
| Matt is the National Youth Director for the Presbyterian Church. He has been involved in youth work for over 15 years working as a youth pastor, youth worker in schools and as a General Manager of a youth work agency. Matt finds great synergy in the way that his interests in youth work, counselling, science and theology can complement each other as we wrestle with how to build the church in the 21st century. |  |
Lisa Wells | |
| Lisa is the PressGo Mission Catalyst. Her background is in not-for-profit management, and she has advised hundreds of organisations over the last 35 years on change management, revenue development and philanthropy. As the PressGo Catalyst, Lisa and the PressGo Board work alongside churches and Presbyteries across Aotearoa and help them by inspiring mission, building capacity and identifying resources. She is passionate about helping congregations discover their unique part in God’s mission. |  |
